There are plenty of great wedding venues in Columbus, but The Ohioan stands out to me for one major reason: almost everything you could need for a wedding weekend can happen in one place.
I have DJed at this property for years, going back to when it was known as the Nationwide Hotel and Conference Center. Since becoming The Ohioan, the property has been updated and rebranded, but one of its biggest strengths has stayed the same. It gives couples an incredible amount of flexibility without forcing guests to spend the entire day driving from location to location.
For couples, that makes the wedding easier. For vendors, it creates a smoother event. And when everyone can focus more on the experience instead of logistics, the entire day benefits.
A True All-In-One Wedding Property
One of the first things I notice when working at The Ohioan is simply how much is happening on the property.
There are multiple event spaces, indoor and outdoor ceremony options, cocktail hour locations, reception ballrooms, a hotel, and places to continue the night once the formal reception ends.
That matters more than people sometimes realize.
At another wedding, you may have the ceremony at one location, reception somewhere else, hotel blocks across town, and an afterparty at another bar. Every transition introduces another opportunity for someone to get lost, arrive late, need transportation, or decide they are done for the night.
At The Ohioan, you can significantly reduce those transitions.
Your guests can arrive, attend the ceremony, move into cocktail hour, enjoy the reception, head to an afterparty, and eventually walk back to their hotel room.
From my perspective as a DJ and MC, that continuity is a big advantage. Momentum matters at weddings. Every time you move people from one location to another, you risk losing some of that momentum.
Keeping everything together makes the entire experience feel more connected.
There Are Options for Almost Every Part of the Day
Another reason I like The Ohioan is the number of choices available.
I have seen ceremonies held in several different areas around the property. There are beautiful outdoor spaces, courtyards, green spaces, and indoor options when weather becomes a concern.
That flexibility is especially valuable in Ohio.
You can plan the perfect outdoor ceremony, but you still need a realistic backup plan. A good venue should not make the backup option feel like a major downgrade.
The same thing applies to cocktail hour. Depending on the weather, guest count, and room configuration, there are multiple places where guests can transition after the ceremony.
Then there are the reception spaces.
The property has multiple ballrooms and event areas that can accommodate very different wedding styles and sizes. For the wedding featured in my video, we had a traditional ballroom layout with the dance floor centered in the room, the head table positioned on one side, the bar across the room, and plenty of space for guests.
That flexibility allows the venue to host multiple events while still giving each wedding its own environment.
What DJs Should Know About Edgewater
One of the more unique spaces at The Ohioan is Edgewater.
It is a beautiful setting, but from a DJ perspective, it also requires a little more planning.
The space is essentially divided into different areas. You may have dinner and speeches happening in one room while dancing takes place in another area overlooking the water.
Depending on the ceremony location, you can easily end up needing two or even three separate audio setups throughout the day.
That is not necessarily a negative. It just means the DJ needs to understand the venue before arriving.
This is where professional preparation matters.
If I know guests are moving between spaces, I am thinking about where microphones need to work, where speakers need to be positioned, how quickly we need to transition, and whether equipment needs to be duplicated instead of moved.
There are also a couple of things couples should consider with Edgewater.
If you are planning an outdoor ceremony near the water, check with the venue about other activity happening nearby. There is a pool area, and depending on the day, there can potentially be some background noise.
The indoor dining area can also have some visual elements associated with its regular hotel use. In my experience, pipe and drape is often used to clean up those areas for weddings, and that can make a significant difference if aesthetics are a major priority.
None of these would stop me from recommending the space. They are simply details worth understanding before you decide how you want to use it.
The Afterparty Is One of the Best Advantages
I think the afterparty options are one of the most underrated parts of The Ohioan.
Once the reception ends, guests do not necessarily have to start coordinating rides to another part of Columbus.
There is an on-site pub area that can turn into a natural continuation of the night. When multiple weddings are taking place, that can create a fun atmosphere with different groups mixing together after their receptions.
If you want something more private, there are also options associated with the hotel where your group can continue the night without joining everyone else.
Either way, your guests are already where they need to be.
That can make a huge difference after several hours of celebrating.
From an entertainment standpoint, I like anything that removes unnecessary friction. The easier the transitions are, the more likely guests are to stay engaged and enjoy the entire night.
Why I Keep Coming Back to The Ohioan
A great venue is more than a nice ballroom.
The physical space matters, but so do logistics, coordination, flexibility, and the people running the event.
When those pieces work together, my job becomes easier because I can focus on what I am there to do: guide the room, manage the energy, communicate clearly, and create a great dance floor experience.
That is why The Ohioan continues to be one of my favorite wedding venues in Columbus.
It has the flexibility to handle the entire wedding day, enough variety to make different events feel distinct, and the infrastructure to keep guests in one place from the ceremony through the afterparty.
