A great wedding venue gives you more than a good-looking room. It gives you options for how the day can move.
That was one of my biggest takeaways from this wedding at North 4th Corridor. The property includes three event spaces: Brick & Mortar, Post 4, and Revery. For this wedding, we used the outdoor area by Brick & Mortar for the ceremony, moved guests inside Brick & Mortar for cocktail hour, and then brought everyone upstairs to Revery for the reception. North 4th Corridor currently operates all three spaces inside the historic Smith Bros. Hardware Company building in downtown Columbus.
That progression gave the day three distinct phases without requiring guests to leave the property. From my side as the DJ, that means I can think about each space differently instead of forcing one room to do everything.
For this wedding, the reception also had one very specific goal: the bride wanted the start of open dancing to feel like the opening of Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball.
Revery Is Built for a Big Reception Moment
I have worked at North 4th Corridor plenty of times, and Revery is the space I am in most often. It is a glass-enclosed rooftop venue with a retractable roof, a patio, and views of the Columbus skyline.
What matters to me as a DJ is how the room functions once the event is moving.
Revery is built in an L shape, so sound coverage matters. You cannot assume one speaker near the dance floor is going to cover every table evenly. For this wedding, I planned a secondary speaker to cover the side of the room that wraps away from the main DJ position. That is the kind of detail guests usually never notice, but they notice when it is wrong.
The room also gives you a strong visual environment for a reception. That mattered here because I was not just thinking about what song would start open dancing. I was thinking about the entire moment.
The bride sent me clips from Lady Gaga performances and wanted that same theatrical feeling to kick off the party. I edited the audio ahead of time, planned the sequence, and matched the lighting so the transition into open dancing felt intentional instead of just pressing play on a Gaga song.
Brick & Mortar Creates a Different Feel
Before guests ever reached Revery, the wedding started around Brick & Mortar.
Brick & Mortar has exposed brick, dark wood beams, tall ceilings, and an attached outdoor courtyard. North 4th Corridor specifically positions that courtyard for ceremonies and cocktail receptions, which is exactly the type of flexibility we used here.
The ceremony happened outside. Cocktail hour moved inside Brick & Mortar. Then the reception moved upstairs.
That separation is valuable because every part of the wedding gets its own identity. The ceremony does not have to look like the reception. Cocktail hour does not have to happen around a half-finished dance floor. The team can reset, move equipment, finish lighting, and prepare the next room while guests enjoy a different part of the property.
For me, that also meant running multiple setups and multiple checklists.
We had DJ responsibilities, ceremony audio, videography, cameras, recorders, lighting, drone footage, and gear charging happening at the same time. I had Clay and AJ with me, and the only way that works is if everyone knows what they own.
My leadership philosophy is simple: have a plan, choose the right people, and then give them enough autonomy to make decisions in the moment.
A Multi-Space Venue Still Needs a Transition Plan
Having multiple spaces is an advantage, but it does not automatically make the event flow well.
At this wedding, guests had to move from cocktail hour up to Revery using an elevator. Because that process takes time, we planned around it instead of pretending everyone could instantly appear upstairs.
That is one reason I like arriving early and building margin into the timeline. We were on site two and a half hours before guest arrival. That gave us time to split gear between spaces, prepare ceremony audio, position cameras, and finish the reception setup.
When cocktail hour started, we still had time to bring everyone upstairs, make final adjustments, and get ready for the next major moment.
The goal is not to look busy. The goal is for the client to never feel the complexity.
The Lady Gaga Intro Was the Payoff
The custom Lady Gaga intro was not the hardest production I have ever done, but it is a good example of what happens as clients become more specific about the experience they want.
Higher-end clients are often not just hiring you to play music. They may have a clear vision for how a moment should feel, and they expect you to figure out how to execute it.
This bride was a huge Lady Gaga fan, so she was going to notice the details. She was going to notice the edits, the lighting, the timing, the microphone work, and how I transitioned from the themed opening into the rest of the wedding music.
That makes the work more interesting because the details are being used to create something the client actually cares about.
North 4th Corridor Gives You Options
One of the strongest things about North 4th Corridor is that the venue is not just one room. The complex includes Brick & Mortar, Post 4, and Revery, each with a different look and layout. Post 4 is a separate multi-level industrial venue with its own outdoor connection, although we did not use it for this wedding.
Having three distinct venues in the same downtown Columbus complex gives couples options depending on guest count, style, and how they want the day to flow.
For this event, Brick & Mortar and Revery worked together especially well. The ceremony and cocktail hour felt grounded and industrial, then the reception moved into a rooftop space that felt entirely different.
That contrast made the Lady Gaga-inspired reception opening feel even bigger.
